HOMI: WHERE MATERIALS ARE TRANSFORMED INTO STYLE

New production techniques see a renewed focus on the plasticity of the materials,
while artisan craftsmanship confirms its value-adding status in the homeware sector.
The Lifestyle Trade Fair sees the creativity chain become even longer

Creativity is a fine balance in which ideas, techniques, tastes and intended use, give rise to objects destined to please and, in some cases, symbolise an era.
Objects and fabrics for the home, accessories for the kitchen, bijoux and personal accessories lie increasingly at the heart of this balance, in which materials and #creative ideas converge. HOMI, the Lifestyle Trade Fair, from 15 to 18 September 2017 at Fiera #milano, proposes a journey that begins with the materials, whether natural or artificial, but always the origin of a production chain, the source of inspiration and challenge for the creatives who choose to bestow certain characteristics upon an object or accessory.

This edition of #homi will welcome 1,370 exhibitors, with 34% of these coming from 37 different countries, with Spain, France, Germany and India being the most widely represented.

The expected visitors will be joined by numerous operators identified by Fiera #milano with the collaboration of ITA-ICE, to enable the companies in attendance to enter into contact with the increasingly profiled international audience, in line with their business proposals. They are selected buyers who represent, amongst others, countries such as Russia, Japan, the USA, China and India as well as South America. Of these, the number of operators hailing from Spain, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt is growing and, for the very first time, there are also  representatives from Angola and Ethiopia in attendance at #homi.

HOMI Trends represents one of the most interesting initiatives that dedicate space to materials as a starting point for each and every stylistic idea. The space narrates the new life and lifestyle trends identified by WGSN, the leading international market research and analysis company, and the HOMI Hybrid Lounge workshop, designed with POLI.design, the heart and soul of the #design System at the Polytechnic University of Milan, which proposes the very latest trends in materials and finishes for Interior #design.

Even the technology, an impalpable raw material, is presented as a basis for new proposals at HOMI Smart, the #event that examines the ever closer relationship between design and technology. All eyes are on the materials once again with the numerous innovations featuring in the ‘Da Uno a Cento’ (From One to One Hundred) and the ‘HOMI Sperimenta e Creazioni’ (HOMI Experiments and Creations) spaces, dedicated to experimentation and artisan craftsmanship.

#homi is a creativity hub, which focuses on young talents, promoting the combination between the creativity of the current times and the #design of the future. ‘Design Competition’ – Lombardy Region’s initiative organised in collaboration with Unioncamere Lombardia and ADI, the Italian Association for Industrial Design, gives them the opportunity to confront themselves with the market and #design new objects for home and personal use, inspired this year by the theme of ‘Sharing’.

The prototypes of the 40 winning projects are previewed at HOMI, in a dedicated space that is transformed into a narrative for the future of #design: saving space, restoring everyday materials and re-discovering simple forms, without foregoing elegance. These are the suggestions of the young creatives who, through objects such as chairs, lamps, accessories, bookshelves, tables and much more, will bring our homes to life in the coming years.

Design, arts and crafts and research and tradition come together as one as part of initiatives such as ‘La Magnifica Forma’ (The Magnificent Form), an #event dedicated to the re-discovery of the unique cultural heritage and Italian craftsmanship that, for this edition, will host a selection of around 100 products, which represent the value of traditional manufacturing, alongside today’s aesthetic tastes and production requirements, through an emotional and inspiring journey.

The Fashion&Jewels satellite event also places emphasis on the material nature of the #creative object, thanks to the ‘La Pelle della Moda’ (Fashion’s Leather) exhibition, which will focus on the effervescence and versatility of a traditional material that never fails to perpetually re-invent itself and provide the #fashion industry with new opportunities.

Numerous workshops, conferences, research labs and talk shows  enliven #homi. It is a highly formative moment for the industry players and visitors, as well as an opportunity to meet up and exchange views and ideas on topics dear to the Lifestyle Trade Fair.
