Seat joins the board of cotec to provide its vision in the face of the challenges of industry

  • The president of #seat, Luca de Meo, meets the president and general director of Cotec, Cristina Garmendia y Jorge Barrero

SEAT has joined the Board of the Cotec Foundation for Innovation as a Patron Advisor. #seat President Luca de Meo points out that “the #automotive sector is undergoing a period of reinvention as we face the challenges for our future raised by four macro trends: electric car, autonomous car, connected car and mobility services. Innovation is at the core of all these trends. #seat is committed to connectivity and mobility services, and in this endeavour we are working intensely on our own developments and on a partner ecosystem to enable us to be at the Forefront in these fields. We are convinced that becoming part of Cotec will be valuable for all stakeholders”.

According to Cotec General Manager Jorge Barrero, “SEAT’s incorporation in Cotec is great news for us. It is a flagship for Spanish industry and a benchmark in key technologies of the fourth industrial revolution. #robotics, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence are areas where the #automotive sector can share its expertise with other, lagging industries. Furthermore, challenges such as the connected and the autonomous car, the circular, collaborative economy and many other phenomena that are going to shape the future of the car industry can draw on the experience and vision provided by a board with an increasingly rich and varied background”.

The Board of Cotec, whose honorary president is His Majesty the King, comprises close to 90 innovation-based public and private entities.

The Cotec Foundation’s Strategic Plan includes new incorporations to its Board, adding representatives of the national system of innovation which are currently lacking or under-represented. In addition to the car industry, the textile, tourism, hospitality and food, capital goods, electronics, digital companies, publishing and culture and sports sectors, among many others, are all welcome in the Board of Cotec.
