Innovation driven since 1844

Schrader Performance Sensors, the #automotive aftermarket brand of Sensata Technologies,
continues to maintain its position as the leading global manufacturer of tyre pressure monitoring
systems (TPMS). #schrader has delivered solutions that protect and perform for the past 174 years.
Schrader began making valves for bicycle tyres, later expanding into pioneering TPMS and now
offering revolutionary TPMS solutions in the aftermarket.

Our history goes back to 1844, when a German immigrant, August #schrader, opened a small shop
in lower Manhattan, NY. A few decades later, August Schrader’s son, George #schrader, took over
and produced the first bicycle valve in 1891. Less than 6 years later, he introduced the automotive
pneumatic tyre valve that is still used on most vehicles today. This was the first of many patents to
follow.

The early success of #schrader shows the origin of the company’s constant strive for innovation and
excellence that has lived on for over a century. Over the last 100 years, with this spirit, Schrader
developed and introduced a variety of valve assemblies and gauges. The company’s early devotion
to meet and forecast needs of the #automotive industry then resulted in pioneering TPMS. In 1997
Schrader equipped the Corvette C5. Now, TPMS is a safety feature that is regulated on all cars and
light trucks sold in the U.S. and in Europe and will soon be regulated in China in 2019. Nowadays,
Schrader’s direct TPMS technology can be found in over 50% of global OEM vehicle platforms.

What does it takes to become a leading supplier, building a steady reputation for service, quality and
trust that lasts for more than a century? Many elements can contribute to this, such as: adaptability,
innovation, dedication to quality, regular evaluation. But perhaps the most important is the
relationship that company builds with their customers. “We approach the industry a little differently,”
states General Manager, Frank Frederick: - “We don’t simply supply product to our customer and
walk away. We take the time to understand their challenges, give them best practices, train their staff
and help them market their product.”
