SPS IPC Drives 2016: Kistler Showcases Solutions for Dependable Bolted Joints

Winterthur, 18 October 2016 – At this year's SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg from 22 to 24 November, #kistler will premiere laboratory systems to analyze bolted joints, calibration equipment and test systems for torque tools, as well as measuring systems for random sample testing. Among the products on show at the stand, the spotlight is on INSPECTpro – the new monitoring system to measure torque and rotation angle – along with cutting-edge products from Kistler's joining and torque portfolio.

In automated production, everything revolves around accurate, reliable process monitoring. Especially in the automotive industry, monitoring and control of bolted joints is hugely important for quality assurance. That's because all the influences that find their way into this process converge at the end of the process chain. Even the smallest errors in the development or assembly process can cause costs running into millions. By integrating Schatz GmbH into the #kistler Group, #kistler is deepening its application know-how in bolted joint technology – so for the first time, customers across the globe have access to bolted joint expertise from one single source.

INSPECTpro for More Transparent Testing Processes

INSPECTpro, the portable measuring device for torque and rotation angle, opens up new possibilities in terms of hardware as well as software: now, process capability checks and random sample inspections during assembly are even easier to perform. Graphic analyses of assembly processes ensure optimal quality in bolted joint assembly. Customers always need testing to be faster and more effective, so new software modules are constantly being developed to ensure easier handling for users and greater transparency in test processes. One new feature is the Tool Management license. Tools to be tested can be stored here ahead of time so they can be conveniently called up later on in Tool Testing mode. The Tolerance Classes software module handles the use of stored tolerance classes in the parameter sets for tool testing/management or bolted joint management.

NCFR – Dynamic Drive Technology and High-Precision Sensors

The latest products from Kistler's range of joining modules will also be on show at the stand: #kistler is presenting its NCFR Joining Module – as well as the classical linear joining process, this system can perform a controlled rotary movement of the ram, either sequentially or even simultaneously. Like the entire family of NC joining systems, the NCFR joining module features a variety of additional benefits: users will appreciate its enormous flexibility and excellent dynamics combined with intuitive operation – so joining processes ranging from simple to highly complex can be handled rapidly and efficiently. Thanks to the servo amplifiers used, all traverse movements that are performed can be controlled with high precision.

Torque Sensor 4503B and KiTorq 4550A: Sensor Technology for Maximum Precision

The cutting-edge sensor technology showcased by #kistler at the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg will convince visitors that our company also represents the state-of-the-art when it comes to the development of high-precision torque sensors. The 4503B torque sensor offers a host of extended functionalities, bringing it into line with the very latest market requirements. For instance, optical speed and angle sensing has now been replaced by magnetic technology. This gives the sensor the advantage of added resilience for reliable operation in heavily contaminated industrial environments (e.g. where oil mist is present) – thereby saving valuable time on maintenance. The torque sensor's electronics have also been optimized, and the 4503B now has a cut-off frequency of 10 kHz for highly dynamic measurements.

Another technological milestone on Kistler's stand is the KiTorq 4550A with angle sensing – to enable determination of torque, speed or rotation angle with exceptionally high resolution (up to 8192 pulses per revolution). The number of pulses can be freely adjusted to the requirements as appropriate. The torque measuring flange system consists of a measuring element, the KiTorq rotor and a torque evaluation unit (the KiTorq stator). With a suitable selection of components for the specific test bench, this system offers excellent flexibility for manufacturers of electrical motors and combustion engines, transmissions, pumps and compressors: this is because the ringless stator makes it possible to use different measuring elements without having to rebuild the entire test setup.

maXYmos TL 1.2 and maXYmos BL 2.3: the Latest Generation of Monitoring Systems

Kistler's stand also highlights the latest generation of maXYmos monitoring systems. Their purpose: to deliver consistent, process-integrated quality assurance. The patterns of measurement curves can be used to monitor and control the quality of a single production step, a sub-assembly or an entire #product. Because this control is integrated in the process, the system provides the basis for enhanced transparency in assembly and testing systems – paving the way for increased cost-efficiency throughout the production facility.
