Sónar+D celebrates its first Reykjavík edition

The fourth edition of Sónar Reykjavík is celebrating its first Sónar+D, the international conference on the digital transformation of the creative industries to develop and strengthen talent, exchange of knowledge and establish business opportunities. The focus of this 2016 edition of Sónar+D will be on creativity and technology from the local scene and from visiting speakers and creators on music, visuals and technology.
The conference is divided into different segments: a congress, where the spotlight will be on social media, women in music and a one on one interview with Bafta winner Ólafur Arnalds. These are a few of the several topics that will be dissected during the three days at the Harpa Concert House. Also, there are exhibitions from local creators of musical equipment along with a presentation from Pioneer.
For those who seek to learn the basics in creating their own synthesizer, a workshop from Mute by Dirty Electronics will be available to limited quantity of participants for a fee of 45EUR/6.300 ISK all three days of the festival.
Access to the Sónar+D program is free of charge to those who have three day and single day wristbands to Sónar #reykjavik. Opening hours are from 14.00 to 18.00 Thursday the 18th through the 20th of February.
All activities, panels and exhibitions take place at the Flói area on the first floor of Harpa Concert House.

What is Sónar Reykjavik

It's intimate. The festival is going to portray how a prestige brand can redefine itself in smaller locations and venues. The new concert house, Harpa and the joy of music will be a stark contrast against the Icelandic winter and the arctic darkness outside. Sónar #reykjavik is also an experiment in how music can reach those who truly seek it by those performing it and seeing that it´s not always the largest stage and the biggest crowd that matters but also about the unique relationship that forms and the memories for all involved. Trying to follow in the footsteps of the pioneering Sónar Barcelona festival is hard but hosting a Sónar #reykjavik festival which strives to deliver the experience and artists line up Sónar Barcelona would be proud of is something we truly believe is possible.

Sónar #reykjavik will take place on five stages with a total capacity of 3500 guests. Beside the two main stages a part of the concert halls underground parking will be changed in to a nightclub were local and international DJ´s will perform during the festival. A scenic part of the concert house will also be changed into a stage along with a seated hall with capacity of 199 guests.

The line up will include balanced mix of both international artists and the most current ones from Iceland´s thriving music scene.

The schedule for Sónar #reykjavik 2016 has just been released

Now that the schedule for the 4th edition of Sónar #reykjavik has been released, it’s time to start planning the three thrilling nights in February at Harpa Concert House. We are exceptionally proud of the variety of artists participating in this year’s festival and also the fact that never have we had so many acts on the bill; 76 in total!

Sónar #reykjavik takes place over five stages from the 18th through the 20th February at Harpa Concert House in downtown #reykjavik.

Sónar Reykjavík 2016 final line up announcement!

Four weeks away from the fourth edition of Sónar #reykjavik and it’s time to close the biggest line up we had since starting the festival in 2013. The Icelandic music scene is sometimes considered to be one of the most vibrant one in the world, especially when people realise that there are only 320.000 people living on the island. The saying “everyone is in a band and sometimes three” has never been more true than now.

First of all we are happy to welcome back the phenomenon Icelandic trio Vök who put on a memorable show at Sónar #reykjavik 2014. Other bands announced are Ruxpin, Futuregrapher and Halleluwah. From the thriving DJ scene we have the legendary Icelandic DJ Tommi White, BenSöl, RVK DNB, Rix, the DJ duo KSF and Óðinn who will be representing Thule Records, the highly acclaimed Icelandic techno label. Sónar Reykjavík would not be true to its origin without the emerging talent so we are thrilled to have asdfhg., Kosmodod, Tonik Ensemble and Good Moon Deer added to the line up along with Ultraplay from the UK.

Sónar Reykjavík takes place on 5 stages inside the Harpa Concert House in downtown #reykjavik from the 18th through the 20th of February 2016.
