Bullet Hell Meets Adventure in Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity Now Available on Steam

Popular Doujin Series Action RPG Spinoff Stays True to its Roots with new ‘Bullet Hell’ Difficulty and Improved Visuals


Torrance, Calif. — July 11, 2018 — #xseedgames, the independent-minded publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc., today launched #touhouscarletcuriosity, the action-RPG take on the legendary danmaku series developed by indie studio Ankake Spa, for Windows #pc on Steam. The title is now available globally for $14.99, €14.99, and £12.99, with a 10% discount off the regular price throughout its launch week. The #steam release adds support for a variety of resolutions up to native 4K and includes the new ‘Bullet Hell’ difficulty, created exclusively for this release to offer a more challenging experience that lives up to the series’ reputation.

Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity features a standalone story that draws upon the renowned franchise’s 20 years of lore to characterize its two playable protagonists, while providing an excellent jumping-in point for series newcomers looking for a fresh adventure. Players can take on one of two distinct roles – either the titular vampire Remilia Scarlet or her devoted maid, Sakuya Izayoi – as they explore a wide variety of environments, navigate tricky platforming, and battle intense boss characters, who fill the screen with complex waves of projectiles in a manner worthy of the renowned Touhou ‘king of bullet hell’ name.


About Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity

The adventure begins with the so-called “Scarlet Devil” Remilia Scarlet, who, at 500 years old, is desperately searching for something new to end the monotony of immortality. After stumbling upon a newspaper article about a powerful and mysterious monster terrorizing the countryside, she rushes out to see if this could finally be the excitement for which she yearns. Unfortunately, not only is she unsuccessful in her search for the monster, but she returns to find her manor in ruins. It would seem the monster has come to her! With a renewed sense of determination (and a much-needed respite from her boredom), she vows to take revenge on this fiend and make it pay!

Originally debuting in North America on PS4, #touhouscarletcuriosity comes to #steam where even more players can experience this doujin adventure set in the ever-evolving Touhou Project universe. Players will be able to fully explore and discover the world of #touhouscarletcuriosity over a variety of levels as they fight their way through hordes of enemies and intense boss encounters. #touhouscarletcuriosity trades in the series’ top-down “bullet hell” roots for an action RPG approach, drawing inspiration from series such as Ys while still retaining a distinctly indie feel. This new #steam release proudly boasts support for 4k resolutions and introduces a new “Bullet Hell” mode created to offer further challenge for Touhou Project veterans or give newcomers a true taste of the franchise’s roots.
