Airgloss: from space to earth to IFA 2018

For the second year in a row, Airgloss is going to attend IFA as an exhibitor, to showcase its cutting-edge products inside the IFA Next hub. The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) is the world's leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, setting the market trends for months to come. It will take place in Berlin, from August 31 to September 5 at Messe Berlin. This year’s participation to the tradeshow is thanks to the support of ESA (European Space Agency).

Airgloss provides innovative solutions for real-time air quality monitoring and thermal comfort management for any kind of indoor space, from homes to offices, schools, hotels, healthcare and even transports.

“Lowering exposure to pollutants or to unfavourable environmental conditions drastically reduces the incidence of various pathologies, some of which very severe” said Ciro Formisano, CEO of #airgloss. “Our goal is to redefine wellbeing, comfort and safety standards in private homes, offices and schools, by offering cost-effective monitoring devices, ensuring full control over indoor microclimate through smart air quality, thermal, acoustic and visual comfort management.”

While all the attention was always drawn towards outdoor pollution, recent studies have demonstrated that indoor air quality can be 2 to 5 times more polluted compared to external environments

Sources of indoor pollution are various and often unexpected: combustion process of cooking hoods, boilers, fireplaces and pellet stoves, frequent and excessive use of household cleaners and detergents (including disinfectants and air fresheners), pesticides, adhesives and solvents, building materials and even furniture.

Exposure can have both short and long-term effects, ranging from mild, transient ones – such as headaches, eyes and respiratory tract irritation, sleep disturbance or loss of concentration – to more severe conditions, such as asthma, immune and nervous system disorders, including a significantly increased risk of oncological and cardiovascular diseases.

Airgloss has developed and patented an advanced technology based on Artificial Intelligence to identify numerous pollutants and improve indoor air quality and wellbeing. Through continuous monitoring and an instant notification system, environmental quality can always be maintained at high standard by creating a proper balance of temperature and humidity, adequate illumination and ambient noise reduction.

Airgloss three lines of product will be on show at IFA this year: Airgloss ProSense, designed for industrial applications, offices, meeting rooms and other public spaces such as schools and workspaces, where air quality influences occupants’ wellbeing and health, with a direct impact on performance and productivity; Airgloss ComfortKit, gesture controlled and specifically intended for homes, with air quality monitoring and smart thermostat features, providing heating, ventilation and air conditioning management; Airgloss OEM, the core technology, as small as a 2 euro coin, designed to be integrated into third-party devices such as air purifiers, range hoods or portable systems for environmental monitoring.

Airgloss journey begins back in 2011, when thanks to a collaboration with NASA their three NADIR units were successfully tested on the International Space Station during the Shuttle Mission of NASA STS-134, for the health and safety of the astronauts. The idea of scaling their technology to Earth needs was born, and it took 5 years of research and development to refine #airgloss MultiSense technology, but it is now accessible to consumer market, with immediate benefits for people's health.

Airgloss was founded in 2014 and is currently located in the ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Lazio in Rome (Italy).

Airgloss devices were also the first products to be awarded with the Space Solutions trademark, created by #esa to give special recognition to products and services that make use of space technology and space-provided services.
