Lock&Charge: instant e-bike sharing

A startup between Trentino and Slovenia, Lock&Charge has developed an electric vehicle sharing platform. With a flexible software and a safe locking device, Lock&Charge offers the opportunity to build own fleets and networks for sharing e-bikes as well as e-cargo bikes, e-scooters and other kind of electrical vehicles, to all interested parties. To date, bike sharing has been mainly a matter of medium-large municipalities that worked in a top-down manner to build a highly expensive, single-purpose and fixed infrastructure supporting one type of vehicles only. Lock&Charge is changing that by offering a plug-and-play platform solution that enables flexible and cost effective deployment of private e-vehicle sharing fleets to any interested stakeholders – companies, communities, municipalities or individuals. Suitable on 85% of e-bikes on the market, the LC platform consists of an electronic lock, cost effective charging stations of different types, smartphone application to operate the vehicles and the control center to manage the vehicles. The lock features electronic (tracking, alarm) and physical security and is operated through the smartphone (iOS, Android). It’s a “lock anywhere” device and protects the vehicle, detects critical situations and tracks it if needed. The charging station is the “stupid” part of the system. It is designed to be a plug&play solution, very flexible and cost effective. Once it is plugged into electricity as a standard appliance it can already be used and shared. In this way, the charging infrastructure can be established by all interested stakeholders (e.g. restaurants, tourist destinations, bars, cinemas, shops, hotels,…) that can put their business on the L&C integrated map and share it with others. By bringing the intelligence of the system to the cloud, the Lock&Charge platform is very flexible allowing gradual expansion of the fleet at any time while dramatically reducing the costs of infrastructure, deployment and management of the fleet. “We want to become pioneers in the shift towards overall mobility and see small voltage electric vehicles replacing cars in European cities, in order to make them livable. With e-bikes we are now in the position to make it happen. All we need to do is to make them affordable, easy to use and widely available to everybody. And that is exactly what our technology can do,” said Andrej Sobotkiewicz, company founder and CEO.
