New Simatic RF360R reader combines the functions of a communication module and a reader in a single device
Nuremberg, Germany. Siemens is expanding its portfolio for the Simatic RF300 HF-RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) family to include the Simatic RF360R reader, which combines the functions of a communication module and a reader in a single device. With its particularly compact dimensions of just 141 x 80 x 42 millimeters (WxHxD), the device supports space-saving and cost-efficient installation in all types of industrial application and offers an operating distance of up to 140 millimeters. Thanks to IP67 protection, the Simatic RF360R reader is ideal for use in harsh industrial environments at an operating temperature from 0 to +55°Celsius.
The integrated OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) interface in the new Simatic RF360R reader supports direct connection to cloud applications for the first time via an Industrial IoT (Internet of Things) gateway such as Simatic CC716, which enables the company-wide provision of data. Production processes can therefore be optimized, with clear improvements in both efficiency and quality. In addition, multi-vendor communication in automation is problem-free as per the Auto-ID Companion Specification V1.0 (OPC UA). For direct integration into automation environments, the new reader has two onboard Profinet interfaces. Both of these ports support the creation of star, line, and ring topologies. The proven industrial M12 connector technology used in Simatic Ident products is essential here. In its configuration as an MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) client as per IEC 61158, the device offers excellent network and system availability through an alternative communication path.
Quick and easy system integration and verification of software/hardware components for the reader is based on the Profinet Industrial Ethernet standard and TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) network protocol as well as the availability of standard function blocks in the TIA Portal block library. Web-based management and seamless integration into the TIA Portal also allow access to configuration, diagnostic, and logbook data. Quick and time-saving commissioning and status querying during operation reduce downtimes considerably. Powerful error analysis can also be performed quickly on sporadic events, without modifying the PLC program.
Like all readers in the RF300 family, the new Simatic RF360R also features an ECC (Error Correcting Code) mode. This mode detects data corruption and can be used to substantially increase data security. Bit errors are corrected automatically. The LEDs, which are clearly visible from all sides, and the proven integrated positioning aid for the Simatic RF360R ensure that diagnostics and optimization of the reader/transponder positioning during assembly and commissioning are particularly easy and convenient.
