  • Sales increase of 16 percent to 5.8 billion euros
  • Strong position worldwide: Double-digit growth in all regions for the first time
  • Challenging market environment: Reliable forecast for 2022 difficult
  • The future and growth are in holistic battery and eco systems

Stuttgart/Leinfelden-Echterdingen – Bosch Power Tools achieved sales of 5.8 billion euros in the fiscal year 2021. This corresponds to 16 percent adjusted for currency effects (14 percent nominally) compared to the previous year. “We achieved record sales for the second year in a row in a very dynamic environment ‒ despite many challenges such as cost burdens due to supply bottlenecks or price increases for transport and raw materials”, says Henk Becker, President of Bosch Power Tools. In 2021, the company experienced a significant increase in demand and was able to satisfy the desires and expectations of users all over the world ‒ with strong brands, innovative products, and digital solutions. The main growth driver was the online business, which amounted to almost 30 percent of sales. More and more users choose digital offers to inform themselves comfortably at home and then select the tool best suited to their needs. In this spirit, Bosch Power Tools continues to expand its cooperation with multi-channel and online retailers on a global level.

Significant growth impulses in all regions

In 2021, the company experienced double-digit sales growth in all regions for the first time. Following currency adjustments, Bosch Power Tools’ turnover in Europe rose by a total of 19 percent in comparison to the previous year. The increase in Germany was 13 percent. In North America, Bosch Power Tools achieved a 10 percent sales increase, in Asia-Pacific 14 percent, in Africa 34 percent, and in Latin America even 37 percent. The brand is particularly well positioned in emerging markets with solutions tailored to the specific user needs. The differentiation from industrialized markets and a broad portfolio are key success factors in this area. The market environment remains challenging for the current year. In view of the high level of uncertainty, at present, it is not possible to make a reliable business forecast.

The future and growth are in holistic battery and eco systems

Cordless tools are still in high demand. “The opening of our 18V battery platforms was an important strategic milestone. We established two cross-brand systems that are highly regarded and well accepted by our DIY and professional users”, says Becker. Bosch Power Tools achieved significant growth both in the ’Power for All Alliance‘ designed for DIYers as well as in the ’Professional 18V System‘ designed for tradespeople. Compared to the previous year, sales generated in 2021 with the ‘Power for All Alliance’ increased by almost 150 percent, and two new partners were incorporated. With the ‘Professional 18V System’ turnover was doubled, and two new partners joined. As a result, the two battery platforms currently have offerings from seven and eleven brands respectively. This success is hardly surprising, as the advantages are obvious: With only one battery, users have access to a very wide range of applications and, in combination with other brands, save money, space and time. In addition, the systems, which extend beyond company boundaries, require fewer natural resources than solutions limited to individual brands, thus protecting the environment. In summer and fall, the battery platforms will be joined by further well-known partners.

To make the offering even more attractive, the company is continuously expanding its own battery product portfolio in parallel. The focus is on innovations derived from user needs, such as the first cordless trim router from Bosch for DIYers and the Keo garden saw, which Bosch has now integrated in the ’18V Power for All System‘. Knowing the needs and expectations and using this knowledge to develop products provides Bosch Power Tools with a significant competitive advantage. “We offer unique solutions and even create new markets with our innovations,” states Henk Becker. One example of this is the versatile cordless cleaning brush UniversalBrush. With its rotating head and various attachments, the handy household helper can remove even stubborn deposits, such as burnt food from a barbecue grill. A further example is the line laser Atino. Thanks to its exceptional concept, objects such as picture frames can be aligned and fitted both quickly and easily to a wall, without the need for another person.

For professional users, Bosch Power Tools has launched more than 60 new cordless tools in the last two years, more than 25 of which in 2021. Up to the beginning of 2023, the range is supposed to cover a total of around 100 new cordless tools. The focus is on efficiency and user protection in trade and industry. An important contribution is made by the Biturbo tools, like the cordless drill drivers GSR and GSB 18V-150 C Professional or the cordless miter saw GCM 18V-305 GDC Professional. Together with the Biturbo hammers, further Biturbo saws and the Biturbo angle grinders, they belong to the most efficient and innovative 18V tools from Bosch. “The future is in holistic battery and eco systems”, Becker sums up. This goes well beyond the individual tool. The company will therefore continuously expand these eco systems and offer users even better solutions based on their needs. An insight into this is provided by the cloud-based solution ’MeasureOn’. The new application enables simple documentation of measured values, images, and notes. The company is thus driving digitalization on the construction site and giving architects and tradespeople an additional efficiency boost.
