Les Stroud is no stranger to difficult situations. During the 30+ years of his hit television series, Survivorman, the iconic survival expert trekked out to some of the harshest terrain on planet Earth to show his viewers the strength of the human spirit in the most dire circumstances. Whether it's the frigid Arctic circle or swampy, bug-infested jungles, Les is one of the world's leading experts on how to make it out alive from the most threatening conditions. However, with his upcoming virtual reality experience — Survivorman VR: The Descent, launching in early 2023 on #metaquest 2 and PC VR headsets — Les had to leave the wilds and learn to navigate new territory in the digital realm!
In this new video, Les will take viewers behind the scenes of the development of Survivorman VR: The Descent, and shows viewers a step-by-step process that involves everything from the challenges of motion capture to the process of keeping the experience accurate, and most importantly, educational. At the end of the day, Les considers himself a teacher above all, and after decades of educating viewers on how to scrape together a shelter and make fire from essentially nothing, he's bringing the survival lessons to players first-hand in the most immersive form of audio-visual simulation available: virtual reality. Developed by multimedia company Cream Productions — known for shows like Eli Roth Presents: A Ghost Ruined my Life, Crypt TV's Trick-VR-Treat directed by Eli Roth, and the VR game Dark Threads with Dominic Monaghan — Survivorman VR: the Descent is a one-of-a-kind Virtual Reality experience that not only pits players against the deadly conditions of an extreme survival scenario, but teaches them everything they need to know about staying alive with the help of Les Stroud, who will accompany them throughout an authentic simulation only possible through the magic of virtual reality.
After narrowly avoiding catastrophe in a fiery helicopter crash, players will need to use all their wits to not only survive extreme environments, but descend an imposing mountain to the point where they can be rescued. Utilizing their toolbox of skills and whatever items they can scavenge to complete challenges, players must navigate glacial crevasses, construct hunting traps, and most importantly, keep the fire burning!
